Atari 7800 ProSystem

PixelatedArcade currently has 52 Atari 7800 games in the database.

The Atari 7800 ProSystem is a game console released by Atari in 1986. Originally intended to be released in 1984, the launch was delayed due to the sale of Atari. It is (mostly) backwards compatible with the Atari 2600 and features a redesigned joystick with two buttons instead of one and improved graphics. The built in sound capabilities use the same sound chip as the Atari 2600 and is one of the weakest parts of the system; it was possible to include additional sound hardware (such as the Atari POKEY chip) in the game cartridges, however due to cost only two games did so (Ballblazer and Commando). Unlike prior Atari consoles, the Atari 7800 was not developed in-house and was instead created by General Computer Corporation as part of a lawsuit settlement.
